"We gotta make a change...
It's time for us as a people to start makin' some changes.
Let's change the way we eat, let's change the way we live
And let's change the way we treat each other." –Tupac Shakur

The Southern Pines CrossFit community places a priority on commemorating fallen military heroes on two special occasions every year.  We do this, CrossFit style, with a gut-wrenching workout.  CrossFit “Hero WODs” are symbolic gestures of respect for our fallen. To the CrossFitter, doing intense workouts serves as a tribute to those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.

We kick off the Memorial Day Weekend with the most well known CrossFit Hero WOD, “Murph”.  This workout is in honor of team leader Lt. Michael Murphy who, in battle, walked into enemy fire to call for reinforcements. He was mortally wounded in his sacrifice to save his men.

Every August, we also participate in “31 Heroes”.  This is another CrossFit Hero WOD in honor of the 30 military service members and one Military K9 who were killed in the downed Chinook helicopter, Extortion 17.

Proceeds for both events go to military affiliated organizations impacting the lives of our nation's heroes and their families, while remembering the fallen.

Another charity we love is Barbells for Boobs.  This is a non-profit organization dedicated to the early detection of breast cancer.  Every October, CrossFit communities come together to do a CrossFit workout named “Grace”.  Money is raised for the early detection of breast cancer in those too young to otherwise qualify for mammogram screening.
